Petrofac has been given the green light by Iraq’s government for a near USD 330 million services contract at the Badra oilfield. The UK oilfield services giant is looking to build a large crude oil processing facility at the field close to the Iran border.

GreatPoint Energy has completed a USD 1.25 billion deal to build a large-scale plant for converting coal to natural gas in China. The project will use a process to treat coal with high heat and steam in a gasifier to convert it into natural gas, the article said.

The President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov has approved sources of financing for construction of the Ustyurt Gas Chemical Complex in north-western Uzbekistan. In line with the resolution, the project with the cost of USD 4 billion will be financed due to loans of international financial institutions based on project financing at the size of USD 2.52 billion, resources of Uz-Kor GasChemical at the size of USD 1.41 billion and loan of the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan – USD 100 million.

The Borwin Alpha platform is the first offshore installation designed to convert AC power into high voltage direct current (HVDC) for onward transmission.

Technip awarded subsea contract for the Tubular Bells development in the Gulf of Mexico. Technip was awarded a lump sum contract by Hess Corp. for the development of the Tubular Bells field, located in the Mississippi Canyon area of the Gulf of Mexico at a water depth of approximately 4500ft.
